Sabah | Malaysian Borneo

Sabah is located in the south side of mainland Malaysia and is an incredibly different experience from anywhere else in Malaysia.  Steeped in history where as early as the 9th century, Sabah had trade links with China exporting camphor wood, shells, cowries, pepper and birds' nests. Although attempts were made by the Spanish and Portuguese to seize Sabah, their attempts were futile. In the 1860s, history records an American trading station at the mouth of Kimanis River which was later sold to the Dent brothers who managed to obtain a charter from the British government in 1881, thereby setting up the British North Borneo Chartered company. Sabah remained under the British Empire until after the War where it gained independence and joined the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963.

With a vast area of 74,000 sq. km, Sabah is blessed with stretches of white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, breathtaking view of the beautiful mountain parks and spectacular corals. On Mount Kinabalu, (4095m) the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea, there are many rich flora and faunas. This region tends to be cooler in temperature due to the higher altitudes. It is a favorite place for climbers, orchid lovers, wildlife watchers and anyone who needs to be embraced by the tranquility and peace of the mountains.
